How I Started Learning SEO — My Beginner Journey

There was a time when I felt completely stuck in life. I didn’t know what to do next or which skill I could learn to start a career. Everything seemed confusing, and I didn’t have any proper skills I could rely on.

One day, while scrolling through YouTube, I came across a video about SEO. I didn’t know much at the time, but the idea of helping websites appear on Google sounded interesting. That curiosity became the start of my learning journey. This is why i started learning SEO and created a site based on this experience and started writing blog.

You can read more about my SEO journey on my [About Me] page.

My First Steps

At first, SEO felt confusing. I kept hearing words like keywords, niche, search intent, and backlinks. Honestly, I didn’t understand all of it at once. But I decided to take it slowly, watch more YouTube videos, and try to learn a little bit every day.

I realized that SEO is about making your website easier for people and search engines to understand. It’s not magic — it’s a combination of small steps done consistently.

Discovering SEO Basics

The first thing I realized while learning SEO was that SEO has its own language. Words like keywords, niche, search intent, backlinks, and meta descriptions felt like a foreign language at first.

I spent hours watching beginner-friendly YouTube videos, taking notes, and trying to understand what these terms actually mean. Slowly, I learned that SEO isn’t about complicated tricks — it’s about helping people find useful content online.

Even as a beginner, understanding these basics made me feel more confident. I also realized that small actions, like choosing the right keywords or structuring posts properly, could make a big difference over time.

What I’ve Learned So Far

Even as a beginner, I’ve learned some important things:

  • Keywords: Words people type in Google. Using them in the right way helps your blog reach readers who are looking for your content.

  • Niche: The main topic or category of your website. Choosing a clear niche makes it easier to create focused content.

  • Search Intent: Understanding what people actually want when they search — whether they are looking for information, solutions, or ideas.

  • Domain and Hosting: I learned how to pick a domain name and connect it with hosting to make my website live.

  • Tools: I started using Rank Math in WordPress. It helps me check posts for keywords, headings, meta descriptions, and readability.

I’m still learning how all of these things work together, but these first steps have given me a strong start.

My First Hands-On Experience

After learning the basics, I wanted to try things myself. I set up my first website using Starter Templates and Elementor in WordPress. At first, it was overwhelming — installing themes, creating pages, and arranging content felt confusing.

Then I started using Rank Math, which helped me optimize my posts step by step. It guided me on focus keywords, headings, meta descriptions, and readability.

I made mistakes along the way — like overusing keywords or forgetting alt text for images — but each mistake taught me something new. This hands-on practice gave me the confidence to keep learning and experimenting with SEO every day.

Building My Website as a Beginner

Creating my website, My SEO Journey, was exciting but also challenging. I didn’t know everything, so I learned while doing. Installing WordPress, picking a theme, and setting up pages felt confusing at first.

Then I used Rank Math to help optimize my posts. It shows me where I need to improve — like using the focus keyword, adding headings, and writing better meta descriptions. These small steps make it easier for a beginner like me to write SEO-friendly blogs.

What’s Next for Me

Right now, I’m focusing on completing my website and writing more blogs. After that, I plan to learn:

  • On-page SEO — making posts readable and optimized

  • Off-page SEO — understanding backlinks

  • Using Google Analytics and Search Console — to track visitors and learn from my site’s performance

Even though I’m still a beginner, I’m excited to continue learning and sharing my progress.

Helpful Tools I’ve Used

  • Rank Math – to optimize posts inside WordPress

  • Ubersuggest – to explore keywords and topics
